Philosophy

Our bodies are designed to move. However, pain, injury or the chaos of life often cause muscles to seize up. This results in pain, which stops us from moving, which then leads to collapsed posture, which leads to more pain. How do we climb out of this loop? Often, the answer is movement itself — carefully crafted for your individual body and story, designed to lead you out of pain and into freedom of movement.

As a professional modern dancer, I originally came to Pilates, and then to Somatics, myself through an injury. These movement modalities gave me a new life on stage when I thought that life was over. I was able to find a fresh breath of enjoyment in my work and play as I grew in my understanding of my body and began to bring it back into alignment.

I am passionate about bringing this “second life” to anyone in physical pain, as well as simply enhancing life for those who want greater efficiency and strength of movement. Whether you have “tried everything” to become pain-free with no avail, or are just looking for a well-crafted workout, let’s work together to make your body whole again, and launch you out to enjoy life to a greater degree!

What People Say

Mikaela is a wonderful instructor. Her stretching techniques combined with traditional pilates makes her an exceptional instructor. She is kind, thoughtful, and sees the whole person within the body. I’ve enjoyed my time with her, and would recommend her.

–Mitchell Wax, Ph.D.Psychologist

When I first started Pilates with Mikaela I felt closed in – like all of me was hunched over, physically and emotionally. With her encouragement and knowledge I feel like I have reshaped the way I carry myself and feel that I am more open to life. The way she teaches helps me understand not just what to do, but why I am doing it.

Pilates has given me a greater sense of openness and strength.
